“For some, the consequence of getting the SARS-CoV-2 infection is ending up with Long Covid, whether or not one had a mild course of COVID-19.”
The Long Haul combines two things: the emotional side of a disease that has more questions than answers, told through the journey and experiences from Long Covid patients and their loved ones, and the science side that looks at what we currently know about the disease and what is being done to treat it.
The storytelling element was created in a way that no matter who hears the stories, whether they are familiar with Long Covid or not, can relate to it. For someone may not know anyone that suffers from it, but everyone can relate to loving someone that is or has been sick.
Through storytelling, Laura Maria Caldarone tells the stories of the patients by interviewing them and their loved ones. Dr Jeremy Rossman, through interviewing doctors and scientists, brings the latest on Long Covid research, possible treatment options and rehabilitation.
Our reason for wanting to create this series is that we noticed that people that don’t have Long Covid don’t always understand what it is, why it is a big problem, both now and in the future, and why there needs to be more awareness for Long Covid as a disease. In our views, it can be difficult to relate to a patient when you haven’t experienced the disease yourself, but everyone can relate with loving someone that is or has been sick, hence the format of the series is telling the story of the Long Covid person in part through the eyes of their loved one.
The episodes combine the words of the Long Covid patients of how they’re dealing with this, and also the stories from their loved ones and how they have experienced seeing their loved one suffer from this debilitating disease.
