In the middle of the massive disruption in international humanitarian aid and public health capacity, Research-Aid Networks is pleased to join other members of the H2H network at the UN Humanitarian Networks Partnership Week.
This week has been a particularly difficult week for US and international public health, with the United States’ administration announcing termination of funding for the GAVI Vaccine Alliance, appointment of an eminently-unqualified person to lead a US-study into the link between vaccines and autism (which was based on fraudulent and unethical research that has been thoroughly and repeatedly debunked), a reduction in state funding for infectious disease surveillance and the closing of Long Covid research and support services (both in the US and the UK).
This is all occurring on the backdrop of a widespread measles outbreak (which is highly vaccine preventable), continued alarming spread of H5N1 bird flu around the world and a resurgence of HIV transmission due to a reduction of US funding for global antiretroviral medications.
In spite of this, it was great to see the solidarity and continued commitment of the global humanitarian aid community at the HNPW.
