Adverse childhood experiences and contextual health interventions in Brazil

Adverse childhood experiences are linked to severe negative health and social outcomes across people’s lives and are becoming recognised as a major threat to well-being and economic prosperity.

Through early intervention targeting aspects of children’s social and environmental contexts it is possible to achieve a lasting impact on children’s futures.

The project analyses the highly-successful, holistic, early intervention approach taken by Associação Saúde Criança (ASC) to prevent and mitigate the impact of social and environmental determinants of health in low income areas of Brazil.

Through qualitative and quantitative approaches we will evaluate the effectiveness of the ASC approach of contextual health interventions in order to refine and enhance ASC provision of services.

This collaborative project will demonstrate the effectiveness and affordability of context-dependent interventions as an alternative subsidised health support system, enabling more effective and more cost-effective care in communities around the world.
